I am trying to move to New Orleans. That is were my heart lies. So to prepare for that move across county, to a city/state were I know no one, I have to earn money. Because any kind of move is never cheap.
I have been working a second job for the Intiman Theatre. Doing fundraising. Which is pretty much calling people 4 hours a day, begging for money. Sounds like fun right? Well actually it hasn't been to bad. For the most part people listen to our community and outreach programs that go on in addition to the productions. They are really working hard to produce top-quality shows for the entire community, and trying to get the arts back into high schools.
Ah jeez, I just did part of the pitch. Anyway, a lot of people like to hear about this stuff, and to talk to people that know theatre, and understand it? Well its been a pleasent suprise. I have had some great conversations.....and in the past few months I have raised $10,000 for them. This is from September until last night. Not bad for a first time fundraiser. Especially by the phone. Our last day for fundraising is supposed to be this Thursday. They have extended it for a week and a half more. Actually they have asked me to stay through Dec. I can do it until Dec. 15th. So one more month. Hopefully all the rest of the nights won't go like last night. We are just started calling more leads. People who have only seen Black Nativity. These people don't care about the programs or if the theatre needs help to put up shows. I called 99 people and 21 of those were not interested. The largest amount I have had so far. It was harsh. But today is a new day.
