Bail

I am sitting here counting down the hours until work is done. (come on we all do it don't deny it) Since the Mulvey's will be hitting town around the time I get off work, I was/am considering just hanging out in the Quarter until their official arrival. I just looked down at my shirt (all black) and realized that there are grease stains all over it, left over fried chicken made it to my shirt it looks like. I pointed it out to a few co-workers and they said I would blend in the Quarter that way. They are probably right. I thought about going home and changing, but naw. To much hassle. Of course, it totally wouldn't suprise me if I got a call in the next couple hours from Connor saying he needs bail money for his parents. Something about a 4 state beer run. So I would want to look my best for the other convicts who may see me. ;)

Weekend

It happened it was fine. It wasn't as totally relaxing as I had hoped. After the week I had just had, was kinda hoping for a stress free weekend. I guess for the most part it was. Friday night we of course went to the Maple Leaf...heard Papa Grows Funk. Saturday I watched movies and tried to get some sleep. Unfortunetly there was a craft fair going on across the street in the park, and they had an entertainer for the children. Who sounded like he was standing below my window. Later that night we had a great dinner with some friends who had been overseas for gigs. It is always nice seeing them. Yesterday we went to see Hairspray the movie. The movie was cute just like the Broadway show. (still lacking something from the original moview but overall it was good) I think I would have enjoyed it just a bit more however if the following incidents hadn't happened before. The bus driver drove 5 mph down St. Charles turning a 20-30 min (depending on lights) bus ride into about 45 mins. The door on the bus wasn't working properly and it would slam open with a bang....everystop. for 45 minutes. I had a pounding headache....the rain started on the way there. I was glad I remembered my umbrella. except it wasn't in my purse. yeah...it was still sitting on my bed. I had picked it up to put in my bag, in fact I think it was in my bag, but I took it out to look for change for the bus, then forgot to put it back in. It was pouring by the time we got to Canal Street. The walk to Canal Place was not pleasant. Slip slidding in flip flops. We were soaked by the time we got to the theatre. Of course on the way home we go the same bus, with the slamming door. At least it wasn't the same driver, cuz I swear the other one was drunk!! It was just a bunch of little aggravations that has continued on to this morning. Like my bra strap breaking. At least I was still at home when that happened. :) And at least the Mulveys will be in town at some point today. :)

What's Happenin'

So the low down, nitty-gritty, the 411 on the week thus far. The plumber showed up on Tuesday afternoon and discovered that our gas had been turned off. This was interesting for several reasons. The first being that Entergy had said everything was fine on their end, and that our service was fine. Second, how did someone get it turned off? The meter is located in the basement, and you can't turn it off unless you are in the basement. You can read it from the outside, just not do anything. So how did someone get in to turn it off?? The plumber turned it on and went on his merry way. We have hot water! We can dry clothes! We can cook!!

On my way home on Tuesday to meet with the plumber there was an odd site in front of the house. My car (remember the car saga??) was gone. Yes, gone. Either the city towed it thinking it was an abandoned car or someone stole it. If they stole it then have fun. It didn't run anyway.

There was another incident yesterday morning that will go unsaid, but I was freaked out for most of the morning. There are some issues at my employment that are not making me happy. You know the good stuff that life throws at you. And it's all okay. Shit happens, you deal and you move on.

As for the mystery on the gas....it turns out Entergy did turn it off. They were replacing the meter and forgot to turn it back on. Still doesn't explain how they got in the basement to make the changes.

Back in time

On Friday afternoon I was sitting on the bus, glad to be heading home. I received a phone call from Kristen who said she was having issues with the oven. She had turned it on to cook some things, and after 20 minutes in the oven, it was still cold. So she tried the stovetop. It wouldn't light. So when I got home I tried it. Flames leapt up right away. She swore it wasnt working. Later in the evening, she went to cook again. It would light, but then blow out right away. We knew the bill for Entergy was paid, was all up to date (latest bill was due yesterday) and they can't turn it off without some sort of notification. Then we start with the cold showers. So we know something is going on with the gas. Sunday I started doing laundry as I don't was anything in hot water and don't need it. I put a load in the dryer and a load in the washer....leave for a few hours for the showing of the house. Get home, go down to the basement and find all the clothes in the dryer are still wet. I think that in my rush to get everything done before leaving the house, that I forgot to turn on the dryer. To save time and to get another load washed, I combined two loads in the dryer. Start another one in the washer. An hour later, I go downstairs.....and yup you guessed it, the clothes are still wet. Turns out the dryer is connected to the gas as well. So now half my clothes are in a mildwey pile, we can't cook anything unless it is microwavable, and we are taking cold showers. It is almost like the early days of returning home after Katrina. We checked with Entergy yesterday when we dropped off the check for this month and they said everything is and has been fine on their end....that the landlords need to look into it. They got a call at 1 yesterday saying they would check into it and get back to to me. I am still waiting. No one came out yesterday...nothing. Not a happy person right now.

The Potter Saga

Usually after you order something on Amazon, you get a notification that it has shipped. I never got that on Friday, so I bopped on over to find out the tracking number from their website. My order was gone. Missing...not listed in the history, not as shipped. Nothing....GONE. I tried contacting Amazon via email. I had gotten an email earlier in the week, saying my order was being prepared for shipment, so I had at least the order number. However the email system they used wasn't recognizing that as a order number. I finally got a hold of someone and yes my order exsisted, and yes it was on it's way. Via UPS. I was having none of that however. I had been avoiding the web, radio and TV as much as possible the closer it got, as I didn't want to hear any spoilers. That was so frickin hard to do. I called up Faulkner Books in the Quarter and reserved a copy. For the first time ever, I went to a Harry Potter release party. It was cute, it was fun and everyone was excited. It took place in Exchange Alley, which with a slight stretch of imagination, it could pass for Diagon Alley. I didn't officially start reading the book until 7:30 AM on Saturday. (of course I had to go out on Friday night....it wouldn't be a Friday night unless I went to the Maple Leaf, and this Friday is a whole story on it's own) I got home at about 4, but I really really wanted to start the book so I woke myself up early. I probably read about 4 pages before falling asleep for a bit...woke up again and tried again...to fall asleep again. I woke up at 10:30 AM and didn't put the book down again until I finished. At 10:00 PM (one advantage to being single and childless and having NO life whatsoever) The book was much more intense that I had anticipated. Overall I was satisfied with the series as a whole. I don't want to say much more because I know there are people who are still reading it, or who will start reading it soon. Oh and the order from Amazon? showed up at 4 PM Saturday...via USPS...not UPS. I have a friend who is getting that copy when she is done writing a grant. :)

What would you do???

I was just perusing my email and noticed there was one from Amazon saying my order had shipped. I about had a heart attack. I had gotten a notice yesterday saying that my Harry Potter book was being prepared for shipping and was coming via UPS (YAY!!) So there is a small chance I will get it earlier than if it had come USPS. I had seen a small headline saying that some books shipped early. I don't know the details as I didn't click on it, but when I saw the email from Amazon saying my order shipped I wasn't sure what I would do if it was my Harry Potter book. Would I start reading it right away??? Or would I wait until midnight on Friday? Just to make it proper? I don't have the will power to wait, if it was right in my hands. I would have to give it to someone to do a lockdown on it until midnight. To make it right. Alas, it was not the Harry Potter book, it was a trashy novel I ordered yesterday and a CD. I put the order in early yesterday morning and then promptly forgot about it. I am excited for this order, although not as much as the Harry Potter one. This one has the cast recording for "Curtains" in it. I love me some David Hyde Pierce and I really really really want to see this show before he leaves it. I want to spend a week in NYC just going to shows. There are so many I want to see right now....but that is for another post.

The mania reaches a rapid boiling point

I clicked over to the internet this morning and one of the top stories was about Harry Potter. It was a story about the "people" out there that are claiming to have advance copies of the book and are posting the various main plotlines, including the ending. Why??? Why are these people doing this? Does it give them some sort of rush? Do they think people can't wait for the book and just have to know RIGHT NOW?? Those people, just don't understand nor get it. It is the anticipation of something you love, be it the release of a book, your birthday, Christmas whatever. Why ruin suprises or try to make find out the outcome to something before it happens? I am so excited for this final book. To finally hold it in my hands, crack open that never before open book, smell the freshly printed pages and turn the page to the beginning of the end. There is nothing that can replace that. I have a feeling I will devour the book in 24 hours or less....then I will reread it, slower and really take everything in. There is nothing like a good book that you literally just can't put down. Sunday afternoon I am going to the matinee for the Order of the Phoenix. Yes I have seen it already, but that doesn't really matter. I am going with 3 of my friends who haven't seen it yet. I have a feeling it may take on a whole new light after finishing the final book.

Where everybody knows your name.....

"Holy SHIT!! It isn't FRIDAY!!!" So it's not quite the greeting that Norm got when he walked in to the door on Cheers, but it was quite amusing overall. Last night we went to the Maple Leaf. On a Monday. I think we may have slightly confused a few people by being there. Jeff, the bartender du jour on Friday nights, being one of them. Why did we go out on a Monday? Was it the music that enticed us? No...not really. It was the fact that Kristen came back to NOLA after working for 6 weeks in Houston. She actually made it back to town early Sunday evening and there had been a short discussion on whether or not to go out that night. We decided to wait till more the "regulars" were there. Kristen managed to embarrass herself, not once, but 4 times. I think in reality on one was observed by the entire bar. Rick knows now not to sneak up behind her. She startles easily.

Today is either going to creep it's ass on by, or it is going to go really fast and I will be asleep before 5. I am hoping for the going really fast. It will cut down the waiting time for the final Harry Potter book.

Weekend Wrap Up

Friday after work I ran by the house I am house/cat sitting for. (Did I mention they are letting me use their car??? WHOO HOO) Made sure the kitties were good and then it was off to my house. I caught up on some tivo, since I hadn't really been home to do that in about 2 weeks now. I then went over to Roger and Elyse's for a bit, relaxed, hung out and chatted. Pretty soon we made our way over to the Maple Leaf. I really love Friday's there. Everyone that works there is just pretty much awesome. Morning 40 Federation was the musical entertainment for the night. They are pretty crazy and their crowds get a little crazy. I saw body surfing at the Leaf.....someone said that is the first time in six years that he worked there that he has seen that. They actually ended their set on the early side, but that doesn't mean leaving!! I stayed there for a tad bit longer chatting with a friend who always gives me good gossip!!

Saturday and Sunday were pretty much the same thing. Sleeping, reading and watching movies. I stayed all weekend at the house I am watching, watched the rain roll through. At one point the thunder was shaking the house yesterday. I thought the lightning was going to hit the house, a few of the strikes seemed awfully close, as in was blinded for a few seconds. Today we are expecting much more of the same. In fact I think I heard 90% chance for rain. Yeah....it has been raining since before I got up!

Kristen finally made it back from Houston yesterday. She has been there working for about 6 weeks. She has been "missing all the fun" so she says, so we are going out tonight. Tomorrow morning will be SO MUCH FUN! Some other dear friends come back next week some time. Everyone is slowly making their way here back home!! :)

Where is a wall??

"The fax machine is not working"

"....so what are you telling me?"

*crickets*

"That the fax machine is not working" starts slamming head into brick wall.

Cute New Family

Scott was feeding Aubrey as Lisa drove me to the airport right after we took these pics. Aubrey of course doesn't go by our schedule, and she decided it was time to eat right then.
A little different shot so we could at least see some of her face
And of course, one of her cute Princess outfit. :)

That was fun.....

Thursday after work, I went out to wwoz, the local NOLA music station. I had never been there before. I am going to start volunteering there. I was drafted by Ms. Grace who runs the music library. I am going to go in there at least once a week to organize my section and make sure the djs are putting things back properly. Fred convinced to actually make it 2 days a week, although I am not sure of everything he will be having me do!! ;) It is going to be a lot of fun. I just wished I could go between 12-2 on a Thursday.....but alas the job gets in the way.

I then walked down to Frenchmen to d.b.a. had a nice conversation with Paul and Craig before their set started. It was another amazing night of music. It was the nice end to the Thursday night run for Paul. He teased me a lot for making it everyone, even the one he missed!! ;) I can't explain how much fun we all have, it is just something you will have to experience for yourself one day. He is just a great songwriter/storyteller.

Friday night I went over to Ms. Grace's house for a lovely dinner. I also go lots of snuggling time with Henry (one month one day older than Aubrey). The company was amazing, we all had a good time. Then it was off to see Bonerama. It was nice to have them home, there was a great crowd there and really? The room was HOT. Okay maybe just where I was selling merch....and the stage. I didn't stop sweating all night.....it was nice to finally have them home, and I really hope an August date is added back at home....they need to play for my birthday.....

Saturday I went out to Snug Harbor for Matt Perrine's gig to support Sunflower City. If you don't have it, go and get it. NOLA music at its best. I always enjoy hearing Debbie sing as well.

Yesterday? I rested. Tonight? Laundry needs to get done so I can pack for Phoenix!!!
